ABOUT

Our world demands collective well-being: Respect for individuals, social well-being, community development, and peace and security, but how can we make it happen?

We bring together experts from neighbourhood work, social work and social engagement to jointly explore innovative ways for sustainable and inclusive coexistence in our communities.

We are looking for you:

  • Civil Society: Exploring ideas and solutions on how to improve their neighbourhoods.

  • NGOs: Engaging in community development and city engagement.

  • Students, Researchers, and Practitioners in social science and community development.

Your 5 Takeaways for Engaging and Supporting Local Communities:

1. Organise Local Events

  • Idea: Host community gatherings such as fairs, clean-up days, or cultural celebrations.

  • Strategy: Collaborate with local organisations to plan events that cater to diverse interests and demographics. Use social media and community bulletin boards to promote these events.

  • Guideline: Ensure inclusivity by inviting all community members and providing activities suitable for different age groups.

2. Create Skill-Sharing Workshops

  • Idea: Set up workshops where community members can share their skills or hobbies, such as cooking, crafting, or technology.

  • Strategy: Identify local talent and organise regular sessions. Promote these through local schools, libraries, and social media groups.

  • Guideline: Encourage participants to bring their own materials and create a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing.

3. Implement a Community Support Network

  • Idea: Establish a network where residents can offer help or resources to one another, like food banks or tutoring services.

  • Strategy: Use surveys to identify community needs and connect volunteers with residents seeking assistance.

  • Guideline: Maintain open lines of communication through newsletters or community meetings to keep everyone informed about available resources.

4. Develop Local Business Partnerships

  • Idea: Collaborate with local businesses to promote each other and support the economy.

  • Strategy: Encourage businesses to sponsor community events or offer discounts to local residents. Create a loyalty programme for shoppers who support local stores.

  • Guideline: Foster relationships by regularly meeting with business owners to discuss community needs and partnership opportunities.

5. Launch Community Projects

  • Idea: Initiate projects that address specific community issues, like creating a community garden or improving public spaces.

  • Strategy: Gather input from community members on what projects they feel would benefit them most. Form committees to oversee the planning and execution of these projects.

  • Guideline: Celebrate project milestones and successes with the community to maintain engagement and encourage further participation.
